Mesa Blue plays an eclectic blend of musical styles, crisscrossing among pop, rock, R&B, jazz and Latin. Chris Del Priore’s original songs are skillfully, tunefully interspersed with group-selected cover tunes, both vocals and instrumentals, often rearranged to feature the band’s multi-instrumental talents.
Mesa Blue was formed in 1995 in San Diego by singer-songwriter-guitarist Chris Del Priore and drummer-percussionist Jeff Stasny, both formerly with the San Diego band, Ryebabies. They were soon joined by bassist-guitarist-arranger Omar Ramirez and the three played their acoustic blend of original music at San Diego coffeehouses. They released their first CD, “Once During A Blue Moon,” in 1997.
While continuing to play in coffeehouses, they added progressively more musical diversity as well as selected cover tunes to their repertoire, and expanded their appearances to other local venues. In 1999, Mesa Blue released a second CD, “Cactus Jazz,” and the more mainstream pop-jazz sound of these originals led to a couple of songs being played on local radio station Sets 102.1 (now KPRI).
Hank Easton
A musician who has been labeled “San Diego’s best kept secret,” Hank Easton may not be able to hang on to this moniker much longer. The secret is quickly coming out of the bag. Arguably the best guitarist in the San Diego area, he is rapidly attracting fans worldwide to his unique style of jazz-pop-rock-blues-fusion guitar playing and songwriting. With the release of three new CDs of original music in just the past year, Easton is destined to become a important figure in jazz/rock guitar and composition over the next few years.
Keith Jacobson is a premier San Diego sax player and a protege’ of Grammy Award winning sax artist Eric Marienthal. Keith, a University of Washington graduate, moved from his hometown of Seattle to San Diego in 2000, and has since electrified Southern California’s vibrant contemporary jazz scene at a wide variety of public and private venues, including Humphrey’s Backstage Lounge and the Ponte Winery Smooth Jazz Festival.
In 2006, Keith released his debut CD I Wanna Be With You, which received airplay on more than 80 smooth jazz stations across the country and rose to #39 on the SmoothJazz.com charts. His dynamic follow-up CD, Turn On The Charm, released in 2007, was nominated Best Jazz Album of the Year for the 2007 San Diego Music Awards. Additionally, it went into immediate rotation at smooth jazz stations across the country, including San Diego’s 98.1 KIFM, making him a highly sought after artist. Keith has been the opening act for David Pack, Ronnie Laws, Huey Lewis, Boz Scaggs, Robin Trower, Nils, and Kenny Loggins.
